This week, I stood in front of a large screen in a conference room with the Smartsheet team—Daniel Trummer and David—while the executive management and IT leadership of a DACH-based IT company sat before us. On the screen was a diagram showing five colored paths, all converging at the bottom in a single box labeled “Smartsheet.” The question in the room: “How exactly does Claude actually interact with our sheets?”

4. Connector and Team Setups: For teams and enterprises where permissions, audit trails, and single sign-on are mandatory. This is the key factor that wins over compliance officers.
5. MCP Server: Claude’s direct, documented connection to the Smartsheet API. This is currently the most exciting option because it allows companies to build their own secure integrations without having to wait for every new connector.

There are three effects that we see regularly as soon as the combo is activated.
Weekly status updates in minutes, not hours. Project managers pull the current status from multiple spreadsheets, have Claude summarize it, and copy the text into the report. It’s not rocket science, but the time saved is clear.
Better questions at the steering committee table. When Claude shows in a matter of seconds which projects are competing for which resources, the discussion shifts—away from “Who has the numbers?” and toward “What do we do with this information?”

GDPR: Which Approach Is Right for Whom?
We always communicate this openly. Smartsheet is available in the EU and can be used under contract. By default, Smartsheet runs on U.S. infrastructure.
